I read this quote recently and couldn’t find who it was attributed to. Regardless, it struck me, so let’s take a brief moment to dissect it:
“Everything is super important. Until you are sick. Then you realize there was only ever one thing that was important. Your health. But nonetheless, we borrow from the bank of our health, taking loans on stress and sleepless nights to pay for something that doesn’t really matter.”

There’s a concept in chiropractic called “constructive survival value.” Essentially, the more healthy things you do, the more you’re making deposits into your health savings. The more unhealthy things you do, the more you’re drawing down that account.
It seems like everyone, these days, is talking about avoiding getting sick. You can’t escape the talk about coronavirus – it’s everywhere. But, the reality is the things that give us some level of protection against coronavirus are the same things that offer some protection against pretty much anything else we hope to avoid in our lifetime – cancer, autoimmune disease, heart disease, etc.
I had a mentor who would always ask “are you dying at an accelerated rate?”
Strange question, but it gave me a moment of pause. What he was really asking was if I was doing all I could be to make sure I was actually maximizing my potential in life. Was I having my spine checked, ensuring optimal central nervous system function? Was I eating right? Was I sleeping enough? Was I getting enough exercise? You get the idea…
We can choose to do things to accrue health, and we can choose things to make draws on that account, eventually depleting it. The nice part is, we get to choose. And beyond that, we can make a different choice at any moment. It’s never too late to make a “deposit”, no matter how small.
How can we help you?
