I never used to think of myself as a creature of habit. I thrived on spontaneity and consider myself a pro at flying by the seat of my pants sometimes. However, when I take a moment to pay attention, I’ve found that I thrive with routines.
A few of the routines that I have grown to love include:
An early morning workout (20-30 minutes of riding the Peloton, strength training, walking outside, or yoga)
Listening to a podcast in the car on my way to the office
Weekly date night with my husband
Taking better care of my skin
These routines add a layer of predictability to my day, even when there can be other areas that feel like they’re messy or chaotic. I know that when I do them consistently, I feel better and tend to make better choices as a result.
Take a moment this week to examine any routines you might have. What are the healthy ones? What are the things you might do without thinking that are NOT contributing to your overall wellbeing? If we are to be creatures of habit, we’d better take some steps to ensure that our habits point us in the direction we want to go.
Have a great week,
Dr. Jane
