Good morning! This past weekend I was in Dallas, Texas at the Upper Cervical Forum, a research conference focused on taking care of the head and neck. I also officially graduated with my DCCJP degree! Woohoo!!!
Here are a few notes and highlights from that trip:
1. There is a solid effort being made to standardize care and protocols amongst Upper Cervical Chiropractors. This is great news for patients who move or would like to refer their friends and family who live elsewhere!
2. New evidence reflects the relationship between upper neck misalignments and increased intracranial pressure. Increased intracranial pressure can lead to headaches, visual disturbances, brain fog, tinnitus, and fatigue.
3. New evidence also explains the connection between misalignments in the upper neck and hypertension.
4. New imaging practices such as Cone Beam CT enhance our understanding of upper cervical biomechanics. Precision Chiropractic is on the leading edge of this conversation as the ONLY chiropractor in Northern Colorado to offer this state-of-the-art imaging modality.
5. An evidence-based model of Functional Leg Length Discrepancy in Scoliosis was discussed, making it all the more critical for young folks to have their heads on straight!
There was a lot of information shared at this conference and the good news is that we are just scratching the surface of understanding the many ways our care helps maintain health and wellness. We see success stories in the office every day but we are starting to construct the physiological basis and understanding to explain why these successes are happening.
In the future, our office will be more involved in creating research that we can add to the growing pile of evidence that getting your head on straight is good for you! And in some cases, it might even be essential!
As always, thank you for reading, and have a great and healthy day!
Yours in good health,
Dr. Jane
